Our newly renovated writers hideaway is situated just a block away from the famous Cafe de Flore, the Deux Magots and the church of St. Germain des Pres. Famous for a hundred years as a writers hangout; it was a hangout for Jean Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Ernest Hemingway, to name but a few..... These are still wonderful places to sip slowly on a coffee and share in the French hobby of people-watching. The left bank has always been the intellectual centre of the city, because this is where the great centres of learning, the first universities were first established. There are great bookstores and clothing shops and much to visit such as the 'Eglise St. Sulpice' made famous recently by the book and film the da Vinci Code. You might also try taking a stroll down the rue Bonaparte, full of incredible antique stores, like private museum treasure troves, or pop into the Ecole des Beaux Arts and look at one of the most famous art schools in the world.
Just downstairs from the apartment is one of the new 'free access to bicycle' stands, the 'Velib'. As of the 15th July 2007, everybody now has access to a free bicycle to get around. Even if you are a visitor, you can, with your credit card, leave a deposit of 150 euros and pay a small monthly or weekly fee in order to have free access (for half and hour at a time) to a bicycle, you can leave it at any other stand ( they are all over central Paris) and pick up another one later. This is Part of Paris' effort to make a cleaner world with less cars.
This charming studio is situated on the rue du Sabot, on the third floor of an 18th century building, looking onto a galleried outdoor corridoor. It is about 30 square metres or 320 square feet. The parquet floors are in dark stained oak and the ceilings are original wood-beamed.
When you enter the apartment you have the living area in the centre, with a comfortable sofa that can also serve for bedding for a third guest (ideally a child up to 15-16 years old), around a small coffee table with great art books and opposite a media centre with a flatscreen television and a mini hifi system with CD player, radio and Ipod station.
To the right of the studio is a modern, open-plan kitchen space, with plenty of cupboards, a vitroceramic stove, a combination microwave and oven/grill, a refrigerator with ice compartment, a dishwasher, toaster, kettle and coffee machine and plenty of pots and pans, ustensils, crockery and silverware to make a meal with. There is also a glass dining table with seating for four.
To the left of the entrance on a slightly raised daise is a queen-sized bed, with a good quality mattress, opposite the small bathroom, which is equiped with a shower, toilet, sink and hairdryer. There is storage space in a mirrored wardrobe just next to the bathroom.
The apartment is of course equiped with cable television, wi-fi high-speed internet access and free telephone calls to landlines in most countries around the world and cell-phone in North America.
